William is a site Superintendent for a general contractor. His role includes organizing everyone onsite, and making sure employees are working on the same plan within all the same sub-trades.
William also looks after the sub-trade foremen, who then delegate to their crews his plan. He is furthermore responsible for the site safety, all the scheduling, on-site cost control, logistics, planning deliveries, lay-down area management, etc.
William describes himself as someone who has always liked construction, and enjoys the thrill of challenges. He began working in Construction as a laborer for PCL. His desire to seek our challenges has motivate him to move further up in his career, leading him to be the Gold Seal Certified professional he is today.
William currently holds his Foreman Gold Seal Certification, and is interested in working his way to earning his Superintendent Gold Seal Certification, as well as the Project Managers certification. He describes his motivation for wanting to earn his Gold Seal Certification being “the courses I was already taking were also required for the Gold Seal Certification. After taking a few of them, I started to notice the value of the program in its entirety. The skilled learnt from the courses required for the Gold Seal Certification helped me excel a lot at my job, and hone my skills.”
“The Gold Seal Certification is viewed as a high status. I know clients view companies who have Gold Seal Certified employees are selected first because they know the employees have put their time in, and have got the Gold Seal education on top of what is typically a trade certification. Essentially, Gold Seal Certification is a status symbol in the industry and that’s what attracted me to it as well.”
William describes some of the benefits of completing his Gold Seal Certification include being a more desirable candidate for companies to hire, “the certification is good to have in a company who is applying for a project”, and finally, it inspires younger workers. “When they see what you’ve achieved, it makes them more ambitious in what they want for themselves. If they can see that you have a lot of growth from a program like that, it’s a good way to motivate others in the same direction.”
