Tim Casler
“Your Gold Seal Certification gives you recognition as your name is on the Gold Seal Certified website, found in the Gold Seal Directory. It makes you unique in a situation where there may be people competing for a job; the Gold Seal Certification makes you stand out. The recognition and credibility you earn from your peers and managers makes you feel good about yourself.”
Tim Casler, GSC, General Superintendent
Tim is a General Superintendent, a newly created role in the construction company he works for. His job includes, taking care of the daily running of the company, taking care of the site-supervisors, looking after the remainder of the employees on-site, is responsible for the equipment, the tools, etc.
Tim began his career in construction approximately 30 years ago, after graduating from high school. While still in high school, Tim knew he already had interest in the field, which only grew as he helped a framer build houses, as a part-time job, over the weekend.
Tim discovered the existence of the Gold Seal Certification through his company as both his employer and a couple of Supervisors had their Certification before he achieved his own. After considering earning his, and with the aid of the Grand Valley Construction Association, Tim was able to register and attend classes to fulfill the education credits required to complete his Gold Seal Certification.
He described his motivation for earning his Gold Seal Certification as wanting to improve himself. “The biggest thing for me is when the company I work for is pre-tendering or applying for a project, having a Gold Seal Supervisor is a pretty big thing. When an owner is weighing two company candidacies, which are bidding for a project, they weight their options seriously. They notice that one company has a site Super who’s been working in the field for 20 years and is Gold Seal Certified, and that the other company has a Supervisor who’s been working for 10 years and has a few years of Supervisor experience, the extra of having a Gold Seal Certification can sure make a difference on the field. Helping my employers, for me, was very important.”
“I recommend it. I want people to understand what the benefits are, what they’re working towards. It’s a large benefit to a person and their career. It’s an accreditation, you can put it behind your name.”
