Robert is proud of his career advancing certification, a milestone that has allowed him to build a better future.
Robert comes from a long line of engineers. His father and grand-father were both engineers before him, so naturally Robert discovered his own admiration for the profession through his role models, and Lego’s. Robert began working in the construction industry after graduating from The University of Calgary’s Civil Engineering program, with a course focus on project management. “I enjoy aspects of project management more than the technical side of engineering. I like dealing with people and having a balance between in-office and in-field work.”
Today Robert is a Construction Manager employed with CANA Construction Ltd. He’s been with his employers for the past two years, and has worked in the Canadian construction industry for a total of 8 years. Currently, his job has him overseeing a 30-floor tenant improvement project worth 60 million dollars! Daily, Rob works on direct client relationships, works alongside a superintendent, and oversees approximately 50 sub-contractors on-site. To add onto this short list, Rob is also responsible for the budgeting of the project, the scheduling, change order administration, RFI’s and site instructions.
On October 16th, 2015 Robert earned his Gold Seal Certification. His interest for the Gold seal originated when he discovered the letters GSC on the end of a co-worker’s business card. “The first superintendent I’ve ever worked with had his Gold Seal Certification. From that point forward I was curious about it and eventually went to get it myself.” Fortunately, CANA construction Ltd. encourages their employees to pursue the Gold Seal Certification.
