Nancy is a perfect example of what kind of benefits that come to those who challenge themselves.
Nancy is a Construction Safety Officer for a commercial build, design and management company, Collaborative Structures Limited. She checks work sites daily, writes procedures and completes a lot of paperwork. She came onto her current employment to work on tool repairs, and eventually transitioned into safety.
After training with the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA), site superintendents and overcoming mild learning curves, she has become quite successful in her role. Nancy expressed her fondness for her role in safety; especially as in her new role her work days are never the same going forward, allowing some excitement into the job.
Nancy really wanted to earn her Gold Seal Certification to confirm that she was helpful for the other employees on site, and earned her Gold Seal Certification on April 15th, 2016. Her company supported her career goal of earning the certification full-heartedly, as the company enjoys having Gold Seal Certified workers. However, the Gold Seal Certification did not come easy as Nancy did face one challenge in particular – remembering everything she studied and required to pass the exam. Needless to say, she successfully overcame this challenge.
Some of the main benefits Nancy now feels since earning her Gold Seal Certification include: feeling confident, peace of mind knowing that, despite her gender in a male dominated industry, she is fully capable in accomplishing her role. In total Nancy feels honoured to have been able to have taken the test and that her company encouraged her to pursue it.
