Matt Simon
“It’s brandished credibility. You know how they say ‘the proof is in the pudding’? You get your Gold Seal and its kind of like a badge that proves you’re credible and good at what you’re doing. I recommend it to coworkers and push others to get it. It comes with great perks!”
Matt Simon, GSC, Superintendent
Matt is a Commercial General Contracting Superintendent. He’s responsible for everything on site; Schedules, safety, client relations, manpower, and labour. His father worked in the construction industry before him. From an early age Matt enjoyed building things, and after completing his degree in civil engineering, he began proudly following in his father’s footsteps by also working in the construction industry.
Matt earned his Gold Seal Certification in December 2015. He has a couple of coworkers who are already certified, and knew that in order to be on par with the competition he needed to earn it himself. “I wanted to help my career and move into a direction of success. Gold Seal seemed like a good idea, and I set it as a goal for myself.” He continued to describe that the exam was not easy but he highly recommends others to work in the field before attempting to challenge the exam. “There’s nothing more valuable than real-life work experience when writing the Gold Seal Certification exam.”
The company Matt works for was kind enough to help sponsor, monitor, and provide a training coordinator to help him reach his goal. If the opportunity to help others reach their Gold Seal Certification arose, he would absolutely step up to the plate and help them.
After 7 months of being certified, Matt is already feeling the benefits. He’s happily earned some career advancement. The certification looks great on his resume, and it’s increased his credibility as a leader. He feels great knowing that he’s proven himself by reaching this certification goal.”
“It feels good; it just proves that all the work you put into your career through the years is recognized. It’s proof that you’re good at what you do.”
