Kyle, a former carpenter, started working in safety under the direction of his former superintendent. He quickly realized safety was something he enjoyed. He began taking evening classes to learn all he could about his desired role, and kept working hard, until safety became his career. Kyle is currently a Safety coordinator for Dragados Canada. He enjoys what he does and finds it rewarding to be in his role, working on site.
Kyle heard about Gold Seal Certification through both his colleagues and former employer. They always held it with high esteem, which then became a goal Kyle strived for. Gold Seal Certification was not only Kyles career goal, but an educational benchmark he desired to reach. After following the mandatory and recommended courses, writing in exam, Kyle received his certification in January 2016. “It felt like a big accomplishment, it felt like ‘now I’m on the level of a professional coordinator.’ After taking the exam I feel comfortable working on the same level as others advanced in my field because I have the knowledge to be effective in my job.”
Kyle was motivated to reach for the Gold Seal Certification because he felt it was needed for him to be taken seriously. He was able to overcome the competitive nature of the labour market by exceeding expectations in earning his Gold Seal Certification. With his current experience and know-how, Kyle would gladly help others to do the same. He feels that he has distinguished himself by earning his GSC and is confident about future prospects.
