John Craig

“My Gold Seal Certification helps me when I go to sites; when I give them my business card and they see that I’m Gold Seal Certified it makes them realize I have Canadian certification that displays I can do my job and I know what I’m doing.”

John Craig, GSC, Health and Safety Manager, Reid’s Heritage Group of Companies

John is a Health and Safety Manager for the Reid’s Heritage Group of Companies, based in Cambridge in Southern Ontario, they are also part of the Grand Valley Safety Group. His role as Health and Safety Manager includes going to job sites, developing the Health and Safety programme, and encouraging other managers, supervisors and the site team to be proactive with their approach to construction safety on projects. He also gets involved with job site injuries and WSIB. It was through the Grand Valley Construction Association that John discovered the Gold Seal Certification.

John earned his Gold Seal Certification in February 2017. His motivation for wanting to earn his Gold Seal Certification was to earn an accreditation to display that he was certified to accomplish his role to the best of his ability. “Through the Grand Valley Construction Association, I was recommended to pursue the Gold Seal Certification as it proves credibility, and it is recognised as more prestigious. The first thing I did after I earned my Gold Seal Certification was to make sure I had GSC added to my business card. The president of my company actively promotes the fact that we have a Health and Safety Manager who is Gold Seal Certified which helps open more doors for the organization.”

“The exam was difficult but receiving the certificate made it all worthwhile. If anyone talks about getting certification I always reply, ‘if you ever want to get a certification, go to your Local Construction Association and get the Gold Seal Certification.’ I think it’s the most relevant and prestigious.”
