Efrem Proulx

“I wanted more accreditations to display my competence as well as my dedication to my job. In this industry, the more letters behind your name the better. It was a career goal I set for myself.”

Efrem Proulx, GSC, Environmental Health and Safety Manager, Cardium Vac Services Ltd

Efrem sets himself some goals and achieves them.

Efrem is an Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Cardium Vac Services Ltd. in Alberta. He is the first of his family to work in the construction industry, driven to the trade primarily due to the interest and financial possibilities. Before his career in safety began, Efrem worked with heavy equipment and plant construction. His daily responsibilities involve making sure that health and safety legislations are being followed, developing safety plans and making sure his coworkers go home safe.

In April 2016 Efrem earned his Gold Seal Certification. While completing his NCSO the Alberta Construction Safety Association notified him of other certification options that could help advance his career. He went on to explain: “I’ve been working in Health and Safety for about 17 years, and about 4-5 years ago one of my colleagues suggested I get certified. I went to school and took my prerequisite courses to qualify for my all of my certifications.”

Some of the benefits he described from earning his Gold Seal Certification includes the augmented employability you feel once you earn your Gold Seal Certification. A Gold Seal Certified employee is a desirable addition for a company. “It also helps you earn some recognition, and gives you an advantage over the competition. Your wage can also improve once you have it.”

I’d recommend earning your Gold Seal Certification, whether you’re a Project Manager or a Safety Manager like myself. It’s worth while. It can’t do anything but improve your situation and prospects. It’s a good program, and it’s easy to access.”
