“I think Gold Seal Certification is a great career goal to have. You learn more on your journey. It automatically improves your performance and it adds to your market value.”
Dee Gabrielle, GSC, Project manager
Dee is a project manager with a consulting frim. She manages consultants, contractors and is involved in the design. She also manages the budget to ensure the project stays on track and performs tender reviews.
Dee studied civil engineering in Germany and it was clear that she was going into construction. She started out working for a mechanical consultant for a few years before coming to Canada. She worked in a subtrade for a couple of years to gain experience in Canada before being hired by a general contractor as a project coordinator. She moved on to become a project manager a few years later.
The Gold Seal Certification program piqued Dee’s interest when hearing it from her colleagues who were also going for their Gold Seal Certification. Her current employer required her to have her Gold Seal Certification. Others have mentioned that it is much more difficult to get to the exam than taking the exam. She gained enough experience, took some courses and she was relieved when she passed her exam and received her certification in December.
Dee believes some of the main benefits of having her Gold Seal Certification include providing a standard in the construction industry, increasing her market value and a great marketing tool to have as an employer. “It also benefits my company because it can show that their project managers are experienced and knowledgeable with the Gold Seal Certification. It adds to the value that they provide to their customers.”
