Dave Lachowsky
“You’ll not only earn personal gratification, status, financial benefits, and benefits to your employability, but you’ll also gain an advantage over the competition.”
Dave Lachowsky, GSC, Superintendent, Carlson Construction
By the tender age of six, Dave already enjoyed aspects of construction. Whether it was helping build tree forts or farm buildings, he knew early on that his destiny would lie in construction. Even if he’s the only one in his family working in the construction industry, Dave is passionate about his career choice. He began his formal training as a carpenter and worked his way up in the industry. Dave is now a Superintendent, and has been for the last 26 years. He’s currently employed with Carlson Construction and takes pleasure in his daily work tasks. He avidly stated during his interview that construction is his favorite activity, besides fishing and hunting.
In July 2015 he earned his Gold Seal Certification with the help of his company’s sponsorship. With HR assisting in the application process, he got his credits and wrote the exam. Dave enjoys feeling the personal satisfaction and career benefits that accompanies his new Gold Seal Certification.
Now that Dave is certified, he has an advantage in the employment market for superintendents. Not only was earning his Gold Seal personally gratifying, and a boost for his career, but he also experienced a boost in his perceived reliability and credibility. Now when Dave goes into meetings and passes along his business card, he’s confident and earns the respect of his peers. Not only has Gold Seal helped Dave, but it’s also helped his company obtain new contracts because they have an employee such as Dave.
After passing the Gold Seal examination and earning his credential, Dave feels better about himself, and he proudly states that he’s earned what feels like a status symbol in the industry.
“When you have your Gold Seal you almost don’t need a resume anymore, because you’re obviously good enough, you’re a Gold Seal Member!”
