Daniel Berrette
“I’ve probably responded to a dozen different contacts inquiring about the certification, it’s difficulty, duration and how to get prepared for it. I’ll always recommend the certification. If you want to be a recognized professional, this is a great certification to possess. It provides you with advantages that you never knew existed!”
Daniel Berrette, GSC, Construction Superintendent, Ledcor Construction
Daniel Berrette is a Construction Superintendent with Ledcor Construction. Some of his typical responsibilities include premobilization investigations, design coordination with consultants, daily tracking of trade progress, reviewing RFI’s and submittals with the project team and maintaining client relationships.
Daniel comes from a family of carpenters with both his father and grand-father working in the field. As to not walk in the footsteps of others, Daniel tried to steer his career in another direction and make his own path unique. He pursued studies in Architectural Technologies, but as fate would have it and despite his best efforts, Daniel did not see his career going in this direction. A friend proposed he apply for a role in construction as Daniel knew that a career utilizing his carpentry skills would be ideal. Completing his Red Seal in Carpentry, he worked his way up from laborer to carpenter, then to a foreman role and finally becoming a superintendent.
Discovering the Gold Seal Certification while working for Ledcor, Daniel set achieving that as a career goal for himself. “I’m big into education as I think it’s one of the main things that keeps people sharp. I’m always taking a training course or educating myself further, whether it’s directly through Ledcor, a course through the Calgary Construction Association or SAIT.” Daniel stated that the Gold Seal Certification was a driving factor for him, because it is a recognized across Canada. He feels it shows people you are a committed professional, no matter what city you work in. “It’s what I consider one of my top career goals,” says Daniel.
Daniel did not face many challenges along his way towards earning his Gold Seal Certification as he made being diligent with his studies a priority. “I always want to make sure I’m on-top of everything. If someone asks me a question, I like being able to give them an answer, so I made sure I stayed on top of my studies.”
Daniel would also like to acknowledge and thank Nathen Nagie, a Senior Project Manager with Ledcor. Daniel noted that Nathen is a role model for many because of his commitment to staying on top of industry standards. “Nathan is one of those individuals who encourages others and supports everyone in their endeavors,” says Daniel. “He is a big supporter of mine and strongly encouraged me to pursue this goal. His support meant a lot to me.”
“The Gold Seal Certification is a great industry standard, showing that people are educated and professional. I feel fantastic for having obtained mine. Education, as previously mentioned, is important to me. Other than staying on top of industry standards and changes, there’s not much else I want or need after received my Gold Seal Certification.”
