Cliff Taylor
“After working in the trades for so long, and being in a Superintendent role for close to 20 years, I think the Gold Seal Certification is one of the highest standards that you can achieve and it certainly adds a lot to your resume. It’s something employers are looking for these days. The more education you have the more of a benefit it is for you in the long run.”
Cliff Taylor, GSC, Construction Superintendent, Estimator, and Construction Manager
Cliff is a Construction Superintendent, Estimator, and Construction Manager. His duties include ordering material, scheduling, daily meetings, etc. Cliff enjoys the superintendent role of his job more than anything else.
“Being able to get out and interact with the craft in the field is where I’ve gone back to. I started in the Construction Industry 37 years ago and went from being on the tools, to getting into supervision, estimating and construction management, but for the last ten years I’ve gotten myself back into the superintendent role because you are out on the job everyday and that’s the aspect I like most.”
Cliff began working in construction after completing trade school. He holds two Red Seals, one in plumbing and the other in steam and gas fitting. He worked his way up through the trades for 10 years before getting into supervision. From there he became a foreman, general foreman, and finally a superintendent. Ultimately, Cliff prefers being out on the field rather than in an office and takes pride in his work.
Cliff discovered the Gold Seal Certification early on in his career, but never felt like it was something that he required to accomplish his role. However, after working on a large project in Newfoundland, he became aware of the number of Gold Seal Certified Superintendents attending an upcoming hiring process. He decided to pursue his own Gold Seal to remain competitive.
Cliff pursued the Gold Seal as an out of pocket accomplishment. He wrote his exam in April 2017 and received his certificate in June 2017.
“My self-confidence has improved. I can actually say that I’ve reached the top of my field and respect comes hand in hand with that. Enhanced credibility is another enhancement and benefit brought on by the Gold Seal Certification. I think there are so many benefits; to further your education is a definite benefit. The face of the construction industry is changing rapidly. You have to remain current. Furthering your education is just going to help you down the road.”
