“I’m always looking to bring myself to the next level, it’s a competitive industry. Having the Gold Seal Certification to back me and my company up makes us extremely valuable in this market. It’s a display of professionalism, commitment to my profession, ethics, training, and education.”
Brandon MacDonald, GSC, Project Manager, James C. Johnson Associates Inc.
Brandon’s career in construction began after he graduated from the Construction Technology program from Holland College in 2009. An opportunity presented itself whilst he completed his education, and he’s been in the Canadian construction industry ever since.
Today, Brandon is a Project Manager at James C. Johnson Associates Inc. in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He is responsible for everything, beginning to end, on the job site; overseeing every detail of a construction project. Brandon is not the only one of his family involved in the construction industry, some of his relatives share the same passion and are carpenters and General contractors.
Brandon discovered the Gold Seal Certification while completing his education at Holland College. “I knew the Gold Seal Certification program was available. It became my next education and training step I wanted to take after graduating. Knowing it would take me a few more years to earn my certification, I didn’t feel demotivated at all. I began as a Gold Seal Intern almost immediately and worked my way towards my goal.”
On January 20th, 2017, Brandon proudly received his Gold Seal Certification. He describes his motivation as a desire for self-improvement. Brandon feels great knowing he’s now a Gold Seal Certified construction Project Manager, and says “I’m interested and considering challenging the Professional Gold Seal Certification designation. I’m always looking for the next challenge. It’s valuable on a résumé. Even just word of mouth around the local Prince Edward Island construction industry, people have been approaching me to shake my hand and congratulate me on my accomplishment, earning the Gold Seal Certification.”
“Make sure to try and absorb every bit of information that you can. There’s a lot to learn, I can’t guarantee you’ll ever learn it all – due to the size of the industry, but there’s always time and options available to help you on your way to your goals. Always try to challenge yourself, stay motivated, and never give up. If you put the work in now, it will pay off in the long run.”
