Andrew Doucet

“Some people have been in the construction industry much longer than me. I wanted people to understand that, despite the time difference, I was as committed as they are. I wanted people to see my work and respect me and what I have to offer. I’m relieved now that I have my Gold Seal Certification. It has instilled confidence in what I do. It’s a great feeling to accomplish it. It is worth it.”

Andrew Doucet, GSC, Business Development and Project Manager, rcs construction

Andrew currently holds the position of Business Development and Project Manager for rcs construction where he began as a laborer at the age of 18. After gaining hands on experience working on contracting commercial construction site’s Andrew earned a management position heading his own division. After 5 years of divisional success, he became part of the company’s Leadership Team contributing to overall strategic planning and operational efficiency. Andrew still runs 2 to 3 projects a year, but the majority of his time is spent chasing potential new clients and assisting the leadership team to ensure that the company is following their vision to be the best contractor, best place to work and best choice for their clients’ business.

Andrew originally intended to pursue a career in the culinary arts, but he soon discovered it wasn’t for him. “I decided to change and aim to something else. My uncle, who’s the president of the company, was building a new office. He asked me if I wanted to come over because they needed some extra labourers. I only planned on working with them for a couple of weeks, and well, here I am 10 years later”.

Andrew discovered the Gold Seal Certification through his involvement with the Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS). “I always knew I wanted to grow into different roles within the industry. I started talking taking courses offered by CANS, and they are big supporters of the Gold Seal Certification.” Andrew earned his Gold Seal Certification in April 2017.

“It’s worth getting the Gold Seal Certification. It’s merit places behind your name. Get yourself set-up early with what you need, in regards to planning. It’s something you shouldn’t wait to complete, so get it done right away.”
