Amanda Moffatt

“I think it’s important as a woman in construction, for me to be a role model for either women or young people in the industry, and show that they can go the same route. It’s important to me to demonstrate what is possible. The Gold Seal Certification is a very recognized credential that carries a lot of weight for people who are in the construction industry, and I take a lot of pride in being part of that group.”

Amanda Moffatt, GSC, Construction Project Manager, PCL Constructors Canada Inc

Amanda is a construction Project Manager. She works for PCL Constructors Canada Inc, the largest general contractor in Canada. Her role includes working on a variety of projects, during all kinds of construction stages. She has experience in estimating, active construction projects and commissioning, closeouts, audits, as well as in full-scale construction, construction management, and building. She is extremely passionate and very much loves her job.

Born, raised and currently residing in Saskatoon, Amanda is a proud mother who takes a lot of pride in her work. Through her employment, she has been involved in the construction of many landmarking buildings in Saskatoon. “We worked on the University and on the airport, to name a few. When people come and ask me ‘what do you do?’ I often tell them “look around you!” I bring my kids to sites I’ve worked on so they can see what Mom helped make possible. It’s an incredible feeling knowing that I could work everywhere in a community that matters to me. I take a lot of pride in it.”

Amanda describes her role as being split between in office, “talking about plans, helping owners come up solutions for what they want to do.” On the flipside, on the field, literally looking at the dirt, looking at this or that. With my job, you’ve got a foot in both worlds, and I find it fantastic. It’s so engaging; there’s always real life problems to work through.” Amanda has a degree in Architectures from the University of Manitoba. “I found being in construction and the building industry allowed me to learn better about how things should be designed and drawn on paper. It satisfied my desire for how I should design and draw better.” One of the first things Amanda did when she finished University was to build herself a house.

Amanda discovered the Gold Seal Certification through one of her mentors, earlier in her career. When she questioned him about it, he simply replied: “That just proves that I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I know what I’m talking about.” Fast forward ten years later, Amanda felt she was ready to challenge the exam. On January 22nd, 2016, she earned her Gold Seal Certification.

“Gold Seal Certification is a worthwhile undertaking, and I think it’s meaningful to be able to demonstrate to your peers in our industry three letters that mean a lot. If you don’t know how to get started, reach out to someone who is!”
