Industry seeks action on infrastructure investment, workforce and procurement in Budget 2023
With the world being choked by inflation, supply chain issues and threats of recession, the Canadian Construction Association submitted the industry’s recommendations to the federal government in advance of Budget 2023.
Focused on the shortage of workers in construction, need for a national plan for increased investment in infrastructure, and procurement policies that support the industry’s efforts to build for the future, CCA’s submission details how the industry can help the Canadian economy overcome a challenging economic year.
CCA’s recommendations to the federal government are to:
- Continue to partner with our industry in addressing the workforce shortage including through the modernization of Canada’s immigration system.
- Continue to update and modernize the Government of Canada’s tendering and procurement models.
- Increase funding for and outline the next steps of the Government of Canada’s long-term infrastructure investment strategy to provide certainty and clarity to the industry.
- Increase investments and strengthen our trade infrastructure, including funding projects like the National Plan for Trade Corridor initiative.
- Prioritize the completion of the National Infrastructure Assessment and ultimately use it for the creation of an independent advisory body.
CCA is the national voice of Canada’s heavy civil, institutional, industrial, and commercial construction industry – a leading industry in Canada, employing more than 1.5 million Canadians and contributing 7.5 per cent of Canada’s GDP. CCA represents more than 20,000 members from 63 local and provincial integrated partner associations across Canada.
