CCA shares written submission for the pre-budget consultation 2022
Each year, the federal government invites the Canadian public to provide input on what they consider to be areas of priority for the upcoming federal budget. As part of this pre-budget consultation process, CCA submitted a letter to the Finance Minister, Deputy Minister, and Parliamentary Secretary of the Department of Finance detailing our industry’s recommendations on how construction can support a strong recovery that benefits all Canadians.
The CCA’s recommendations are as follows:
- Recommendation #1: Increase infrastructure investment
Close the gap between current planned investment levels and real existing and future needs with a consistent long-term infrastructure investment strategy.
- Recommendation #2: Invest in trade infrastructure, including the Western Canada Trade Gateway and Corridor Initiative
Recapitalize our trade-enabling infrastructure to drive our nation’s future economic growth.
- Recommendation #3: Create an independent advisory body to guide infrastructure investments
An independent body is vital to align federal, provincial, municipal and Indigenous infrastructure needs.
- Recommendation #4: Modernize the government’s approach to infrastructure procurement
Adopt modern procurement strategies to encourage productivity, innovation, the use of alternate delivery models, and support shared risk.
- Recommendation #5: Work with the industry to build the workforce of the future
Promote and invest in programs that address workforce shortages to attract and retain a diverse and skilled workforce.
