CCA gets industry input on future areas of focus
Close to 50 industry and association leaders representing various construction sectors across Canada participated in an Industry areas of focus workshop held during CCA’s Annual Conference in Tucson, Arizona on March 10, 2023.
The session, facilitated by CCA President Mary Van Buren, had participants break out into smaller groups to share their perspectives on future opportunities for the industry and where CCA can help.
The report below, which summarizes the discussions, represents the opinions of our delegates who were in attendance.
Looking ahead three years, delegates identified several areas where they would like to see construction’s positive impact, including:
- increasing Canada’s reputation as a global trade partner;
- meeting workforce capacity challenges through education reform, immigration policy changes and building construction’s reputation as a career of choice among youth; and
- driving innovation and being a key contributor to Canada’s net-zero goals.
Participants discussed their optimism in that great strides will have been made in the next three years in harnessing immigration to help address the labour shortage, changing attitudes and promoting the benefits of a career in construction, and moving the dial to advance fairness in procurement.
The report will be shared with CCA’s Board of Directors at their upcoming June retreat for further discussion.
