CCA Board seizes on election and membership for greater impact

CCA’s recently elected Board of Directors met in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island this month to review the association’s progress on its 2024 workplan and consider priorities for 2025.

The annual Board retreat on June 7-8 was new Chair Francis Roy’s first opportunity to formally engage with directors since his appointment in March. Top of mind for the Board was to continue working with Partner Associations to better define and communicate the value of local, provincial, and national association membership as well as plans to engage with government and champion the concerns of the industry in the run-up to the federal election.

Federal election strategy

The Board discussed CCA’s campaign strategy in advance of the federal election in 2024 or 2025. Next steps, alignment with our partner associations, and timing were discussed. Canadians will be going to the polls at some point in the next 16 months, representing a unique opportunity for the industry to be heard and for our association to solidify its role as a thought leader in Ottawa.

Membership growth plan

The growth of both CCA’s and our Partner Association’s membership base was central to our discussions. The Board approved the development of a national membership campaign with the goal of driving leads back to the local construction association.

CCDC documents

The Board of Directors endorsed the revised CCDC 5A (Construction Management Contract – for Services), 5B (Construction Management Contract – for Services and Construction), and 17 (Stipulated Price Contract for Trade Contractors on Construction Management Projects), which should be published early next year.

National Advisory Councils: CCA bulletin and article approved

The Board of Directors approved the publication of a new CCA bulletin, which will provide a comprehensive checklist to help determine when it is suitable to submit a bid. Additionally, a thought leadership article on contract language has been approved to articulate the risks associated with specific contract terms. Both pieces will be published in CCA’s PLUS+.

National Advisory Council meetings

All five National Advisory Councils (NAC) met virtually on May 7 – 8 to discuss issues of importance in their respective sectors. This gathering served as a vital platform for new members to integrate into their Councils following their recent appointments at the pre-business meetings held at the CCA Annual Conference.

Since their introduction in 2020, the NACs have quickly immersed themselves in CCA’s mission to inspire a progressive, innovative, and sustainable construction industry. Thanks to the contributions of its membership, the NACs are creating a range of impactful products to help CCA educate owners, share best practices with members, and engage with governments. These efforts are crucial in shaping a conducive policy landscape that supports the growth of the industry.

Each NAC is actively involved in several key initiatives, including workforce development, sustainability initiatives, and webinars to share knowledge and best practices. These initiatives help ensure CCA remains at the forefront of industry leadership and advocacy.

Partner Association reports – an overview of what is happening across the country

The Board of Directors greatly appreciates the thought that our partners put into summarizing important activities in their communities, bringing a grassroots point of view to the Board’s understanding of the ever-changing association and industry environment.
