Biologics Manufacturing Centre
On November 18, 2021, the Construction Association of Québec (ACQ Québec) hosted their annual event “Signature d’Automne”. During the event, the association celebrated their most recently awarded Gold Seal Project, the Biologics Manufacturing Centre (BMC), built by Pomerleau in Montréal, Québec.
The COVID-19 pandemic was the catalyst to design, build and equip the Royalmount Biologics Manufacturing Centre in record time.
In May 2021, just 10 months after breaking ground (when it usually takes 30 to 36 months), the new state-of-the-art 5,400-square-metre facility was completed, on budget and ahead of schedule.
The speed with which the Centre was built is thanks to the vast experience and cooperation of the client (National Research Council Canada – NRC), the project manager (Public Services and Procurement Canada), the pharmaceutical professionals (Laporte Experts Conseil), the construction manager (Pomerleau) and some sixty subcontractors and suppliers.
In addition to its traditional duties as construction manager, Pomerleau participated in all stages of the project’s design to validate its constructability, accelerate its completion, optimize procurement, and minimize risks. Tech savvy for many years now, the company trained one hundred or so people so that everyone had a firm grasp of the technology and was able to use it to its full potential. Pomerleau also reorganized the sequence of activities to accommodate as many trade contractors as possible on the job site at the same time.
Recognizing that Gold Seal Projects reflect experience, competency, and excellence in the management of a construction project, ACQ Québec and Pomerleau successfully registered the Biologics Manufacturing Centre as a Gold Seal Project.
